Migration & Customization of a Leading Association Management Platform on Dynamics 365

From Dynamics CRM On-Premises to Dynamics 365 Online, with client-specific customizations delivered across a large association portfolio.

Project Description

The customer is a leading provider of association management software built on the Microsoft Dynamics 365 platform, with a strong reputation established through long-standing customer relationships and consistent business growth. Following the customer joining the Togetherwork portfolio, Togetherwork further strengthened its commitment to the association sector and significantly expanded its market presence.

Core product development is handled by the customer's dedicated product engineering team. As part of the Professional Services team, our primary responsibility was to deliver client-specific customizations and enhancements based on the unique requirements of the various associations they serve.

Customer Overview

The customer is a leading provider of association management software built on Microsoft Dynamics 365, serving the association sector across the US. With a track record of long-standing client relationships and steady growth, the customer is part of the Togetherwork portfolio, which supports and expands solutions for member-based organizations.

Customer Requirement

The customer's product suite was originally built on Microsoft Dynamics CRM On-Premises and served a broad portfolio of association clients, each with distinct operational needs. The customer required a Professional Services partner to:

  • Migrate the application and its custom codebase from Dynamics CRM On-Premises to Dynamics 365 Online.
  • Deliver and support client-specific customizations and enhancements across many associations, each with unique requirements.
  • Build and maintain integrations with a range of third-party systems used by those clients.
  • Provide ongoing support for both new and existing customizations across multiple stakeholders and clients.

Our Solution

As the Professional Services team working alongside the customer's product engineering group, we handled migration, customization, integration, and ongoing solution delivery.

Platform migration

  • Migrated the application and custom codebase from Microsoft Dynamics CRM On-Premises to Dynamics 365 Online, then delivered and supported both new and existing customizations for multiple stakeholders and clients post-migration.

Product customization

  • Customized the product to meet diverse client requirements, including plugins, WebJobs (such as renewal, termination, and address validation), and custom API development.

Third-party integrations delivered

  • Video conferencing integration (Zoom) for multiple clients.
  • Association/CRM platform integration (Bluesky) for several healthcare and industry association clients.
  • Learning Management System (LMS) integration for a member benefits association.
  • Booking and reservation platform integration (Passkey) for multiple clients.
  • Community platform integration (HiveBright).
  • Marketing and communications platform integration (Informz).
  • Custom API development and integration for multiple association clients.

Areas of work

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 customization, system integration, API development, cloud migration, and client-focused solution delivery.

Benefits

  1. Modernized the platform by moving from Dynamics CRM On-Premises to Dynamics 365 Online, reducing the overhead of maintaining on-premises infrastructure.
  2. Enabled each association client to run the platform against their own specific requirements through tailored customizations rather than a one-size-fits-all product.
  3. Automated recurring member operations — including renewals, terminations, and address validation — through WebJobs, reducing manual processing.
  4. Connected the platform to the third-party systems clients already rely on, through a consistent set of integrations rather than isolated one-off builds.
  5. Extended the product's reach through custom API development, allowing client-specific systems to exchange data with the core platform.
  6. Provided continuity of support across both new and existing customizations for multiple stakeholders, keeping client-specific functionality maintained over time.
